Professional Licensure Disclosures
Requirements for professional licensure in fields such as health care and other fields vary from state to state. If you live outside Idaho and are considering enrolling in a College of Eastern Idaho (CEI) program that leads to a professional license, we highly recommended that you contact the appropriate state licensing agency in your state or the state where you intend to work to seek the most up-to-date information about state licensure requirements before beginning the program. College of Eastern Idaho makes every effort to ensure licensure information is current; however, licensure regulations are frequently revised.
In compliance with the U.S. Department of Education CEI provides information pertaining to professional licensure and certification in correlation with programs offered through CEI.
The following is recommended BEFORE beginning a program if you are considering an CEI program that leads to professional licensure with the intent to be licensed outside of the state of Idaho:
- Review the licensing information provided for the applicable program(s) below
- Contact the appropriate licensing agency in the U.S. states and territories where licensure is intended. This will enable you to obtain the most up-to-date information about licensure requirements and confirm how an CEI program facilitates those requirements.
Additionally, while progressing through any of these programs, we recommended that you check licensing agency requirements regularly to monitor whether they have changed in a manner that impacts your licensure plans.

Electrical Apprenticeship Program (Journeyman License/AAS)

College of Eastern Idaho makes every effort to ensure licensure information is current; however, licensure regulations are frequently revised.
CEI Apprentice Programs
College of Eastern Idaho's Workforce Training Program offers state-approved apprentice programs in Electrical, Plumbing, and Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning (HVAC). Each 144-hour program is designed to prepare students for residential, commercial, and industrial work. Students receive instruction in safety, theory, mathematics, code, blueprint reading, first aid, and tools of the trade.
Apprentice classes are held two nights per week from 7:00pm to 10:00pm. Students are required to complete 144-hours of instruction and successfully pass associated tests and quizzes. Program fees and instructional materials range approximately from $750 to $1,000 a year depending on the program. Payment of fees is required at the time of registration.
Journeyman License Requirements
The state of Idaho offers a journeymen's license in the Electrical, Plumbing, and Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning trades. The requirements to receive a journeymen's license are as follows:
- Work 8,000 hours as an apprentice under a licensed journeyman (2000/yr for 4 years)
- Attend and pass all four years of the Apprenticeship Classes (144 hours/yr & 70% or better)
- Pass the Idaho State Journeyman's Exam.
Associate of Applied Science Degree for Apprentice/Journeymen
This program is intended for trades and crafts personnel who are interested in completing the necessary course work to obtain an Associate of Applied Science Degree for Apprentices and Journeymen. Individuals enrolled in apprentice programs and journeymen may be eligible for this Associate of Applied Science Degree program by completing at least 16 general education credit hours on campus at CEI. A statement from the American Bar Association:
"The only state that currently regulates paralegals directly is California, which adopted regulation in 2000 that requires persons using the titles "paralegal," "legal assistant," and the like to meet certain educational/experiential qualifications and to meet continuing education requirements. For details, see the law at California Business and Professions Code, Sections 6450 through 6456.
In 2012 the Washington State Supreme Court issued an order adopting the "Limited License Legal Technician" Rule to conduct limited practice in only specified areas of law upon meeting certain educational/experiential qualifications as well as continuing legal education requirements. For details, see Rule 28 of the Admission and Practice Rules, and Rules of Professional Conduct.
In 2018, the Utah State Supreme Court launched the "Licensed Paralegal Practitioner" to conduct limited practice in only specified areas of law upon meeting certain educational/experiential qualifications as well as continuing legal education requirements. CEI Apprentice Programs
College of Eastern Idaho's Workforce Training Program offers state-approved apprentice programs in Electrical, Plumbing, and Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning (HVAC). Each 144-hour program is designed to prepare students for residential, commercial, and industrial work. Students receive instruction in safety, theory, mathematics, code, blueprint reading, first aid, and tools of the trade.
Apprentice classes are held two nights per week from 7:00pm to 10:00pm. Students are required to complete 144-hours of instruction and successfully pass associated tests and quizzes. Program fees and instructional materials range approximately from $750 to $1,000 a year depending on the program. Payment of fees is required at the time of registration.
Journeyman License Requirements
The state of Idaho offers a journeymen's license in the Electrical, Plumbing, and Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning trades. The requirements to receive a journeymen's license are as follows:
- Work 8,000 hours as an apprentice under a licensed journeyman (2000/yr for 4 years)
- Attend and pass all four years of the Apprenticeship Classes (144 hours/yr & 70% or better)
- Pass the Idaho State Journeyman's Exam.
Associate of Applied Science Degree for Apprentice/Journeymen
This program is intended for trades and crafts personnel who are interested in completing the necessary course work to obtain an Associate of Applied Science Degree for Apprentices and Journeymen. Individuals enrolled in apprentice programs and journeymen may be eligible for this Associate of Applied Science Degree program by completing at least 16 general education credit hours on campus at CEI. "AST advocates to pass state laws that address competency by requiring that, in order to be hired to practice surgical technology, the candidate must: (1) graduate from a CAAHEP-accredited surgical technology program; (2) obtain the Certified Surgical Technologist (CST®) credential from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA); and (3) maintain the CST® credential by completing mandatory continuing education (CE) hours. These requirements would apply to new-hires employed on or after the effective date of the law.
