Medical Administrative Assistant with Medical Billing and Coding

Course Overview

This self-paced online course is designed to prepare students for a career as a medical administrative assistant with specialized training in medical billing and coding. The course curriculum is broken into three main segments: Medical Terminology, Certified Medical Administrative Assistant, and Medical Billing and Coding. Through a strategic progression of online learning modules, students will build a foundation of knowledge that will prepare them to sit for certifying exams and enter the healthcare field as qualified job candidates.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, participants will be equipped to:

• Understand and utilize medical terminology accurately and efficiently
• Manage medical records and office scheduling, process insurance, and communicate professionally in a medical office environment
• Explain the intricacies of health insurance, reimbursements, HIPAA regulations, and the Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS)
• Navigate the encoder application Codify (AAPC) and utilize coding conventions from the following coding manuals: ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS Level II

Certification

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be prepared to sit for the Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) national certification exam offered by the National Healthcare Association (NHA). Students will receive a voucher that covers the cost of the CMAA exam and will be able to select a study guide and voucher for a certifying exam for medical billing and coding. After passing their exams, students will be certified to work in the healthcare field as a Medical Administrative Assistant and/or Medical Biller and Coder. Please note that students must have a high school diploma or GED in order to sit for national exams.
