Overview

College of Eastern Idaho's Associate of Arts in Business is the first milestone to a 4-year business degree. The program offers transferable business credits, affordable education, and a state-of-the-art education.

CEI uses a traditional business core model to provide students with a solid foundation to prepare them for transferring to a university business program.

Requirements/Note

Some courses may require prerequisites or placement. See the current CEI catalog or advisor for more information.

The Business Associate of Arts is designed as a two-year transfer degree. Please speak to your advisor and the transfer advisor from the university you are planning to transfer to for more guidance. If you have plans for a future in BA, these are the suggested classes. Some classes may need to be petitioned for credit when transferring to a four-year university.

Pass Classes: Once accepted into the Business transfer program, students must pass their courses with a minimum grade of C- (70%) or higher.

Laptop Requirement: CEI is a Microsoft-based campus. As such, we strongly recommend that all hardware used for CEI classes (such as laptops) have the capability to run Microsoft software. All students have access to download Microsoft 365 software for free, including Word and Excel, which are used extensively in Business and Industry. Chromebooks and iOS-based devices are not recommended for the Business program.

Placement Scores: CEI uses standardized testing scores to place students into the appropriate level math and English classes for a student’s selected program (if applicable). Students may submit current SAT/ACT scores or take the ALEKS (math placement exam) and/or Accuplacer (English placement exam). Placement exam testing may be scheduled through the CEI Testing Center. Placement scores for basic college-level math and English courses are as follows:

GEM Explain

General Education Matriculation

General Education Matriculation (GEM) for Idaho higher education refers to a set of core courses that students in Idaho's public colleges and universities are required to take to graduate. These courses are typically in English, math, science, and social studies and are intended to provide students with a well-rounded education and a strong foundation in the liberal arts. GEM “stamped,” or approved as GEM, courses may vary by institution, so students need to check with their school to see which courses are required for graduation.

The six GEM competency areas are:

  • Written Communication (GEM 1)
  • Oral Communication (GEM 2)
  • Mathematical Ways of Knowing (GEM 3)
  • Scientific Ways of Knowing (GEM 4)
  • Humanistic and Artistic Ways of Knowing (GEM 5)
  • Social and Behavioral Ways of Knowing (GEM 6)
